Title: American Gatling gun - Point Mulinu'u
Description: 195 x 145 mm. A view showing a row of armed American sailors standing behind a gatling gun team at Mulinu'u Point. This location was the scene of an attempted occupation by Mata'afan war canoes on March 14th 1899, after Rear Admiral Kantz of the USS 'Philadelphia', peremptorily dissolved the provisional government. The action at Mulinu'u Point heralded the start of renewed hostilities; the attack on the Tivoli Hotel, the bombardment of Mata'afan villages and the battle of April 1st outside Apia.
