      Photograph titles

The photograph titles (other than those enclosed in square brackets) are the titles given by the photographer or original collector. Many of these titles were written a long time ago and use terms that are no longer considered acceptable. The titles have been preserved in this gallery as they convey a sense of the time and the attitudes of the people involved.

This gallery seeks to demonstrate the variety of photographs contained in the RCS Collection. It contains over 650 digitised images, dating from the late 19th century to the mid-1980s, with a wide-ranging subject matter, including:

  • royal tours;

  • trade, industry and agriculture;

  • immigration;

  • education and health;

  • family life and recreation.

The photographs in the gallery are protected by copyright. Before viewing the images please read our Terms of Use and Notices section.

If you would like a copy of any of the images shown, please contact Cambridge University Library Imaging Services, Email: photo@lib.cam.ac.uk, Tel: 01223 333107. Imaging Services are open Monday-Friday, 09.30 to 12.40 and 14.00 to 17.10 (16.50 on Fridays). Details about reproduction costs and copyright permission can be found on the Imaging Services site.

Please note that the gallery only contains a sample of the many images held by the RCS Library. The aim of the project is to enable a comprehensive search of all the catalogues using Janus.
