J.W. Cleary established a photographic business in Kingston, Jamaica, during the early 1880s. E.W. Elliott became his partner in 1906 (Macmillan 1922, p.98). In 1916 'Cleary's Photo Studio' was located at 89 King Street (DeSouza 1916, p.58). During the First World War the firm issued portraits on buttons in connection with the local Red Cross Fund.
