Herbert Deveril arrived in Wellington from Melbourne (where he had been employed as a photographer) in 1873 to take over the Photolithographic Department of the Government Printing Office. He was active as a photographer until the mid-1880s. He was commissioned by the New Zealand Government to take a series of photographs of New Zealand for the 1876 Philadelphia Exhibition. | |||
