The photographic firm W. (William) and D. (Daniel) Downey was active in London, England. It was one of the leading firms of portrait photographers in the second half of the nineteenth century and was involved in the production of carte-de-visite photographs. Downey had studios in: 61 Ebury Street 1872 onwards; 51 Ebury Street 1879; 57 Ebury Street 1880-1890. The company's printing was mostly done in Newcastle. Daniel Downey died in 1881 (Pritchard 1994, p.55). For many years the firm's principal photographer was John Edwards (Pritchard 1994, p.57). | |||
