Robert Blackall Graham was born in Agra in 1838. He was the son of Colonel Graham, Bengal Infantry. He was baptized in Agra on the 29th April 1838. He was educated at George L. Hanson's, Brighton for three years and John Brackenbury's Wimbledon from February 1855. He was accepted for the Bengal Cavalry in April 1856. He arrived in India in May 1856 for service with the 7th Bengal Cavalry.
