Holloway emigrated to Newfoundland in 1874, in order to take up the post of Principal of St John's Wesleyan College. He married Henrietta Palfrey in St John's in 1878. He was fascinated by science, giving many demonstrations and lectures. He was also a keen photographer. Photographs taken by Holloway were used on two Newfoundland postage stamps and on a Canadian banknote. In 1896 he founded a photographic society for amateurs. Holloway died on September 14th 1904.
