George Adhar moved to Trinidad from India as a child. He was originally a lawyer's clerk. He established a photographic business in 1889. In 1898 he was based in P.[rince ?] of Wales Street, San Fernando (Collens 1898, p.90). By 1905 he had moved to High Street, San Fernando (Collens 1905, p.99). By 1913 Adhar was based at 41 Broadway, San Fernando (Collens 1913, p.213). He remained at this address until circa 1926 (Franklin 1926, p.312).

Adhar won first prize for photography at the Trinidad Centenary Exhibition. His patrons included Prince George, Duke of York (later George V), and the Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII). In 1919 Adhar was Acting President of the East Indian National Congress in Trinidad. In 1922 he was Chairman of the Christian Indian Circle, San Fernando (Macmillan 1922, p.236).
