| L.F. Sellier established a photographic business in Port of Spain, Trinidad, in 1881. The original studio was destroyed in a fire in 1895. In 1896 he had a studio in Brunswick Square (Collens 1896, p.87). By 1905 he had moved to Frederick Street (Collens 1905, p.95). He remained in Frederick Street and in 1916 had a studio at 32 Frederick Street (Franklin 1916, p.241). By 1919 Sellier was advertising as the 'Central Art Studio', but this had changed to 'Sellier Studio' by 1923 (Franklin 1919, p.65 (Advertisement section); Franklin 1923, p.80 (Advertisement section)). In 1922 Sellier was described as a 'Member of the Scientific Society of Europe, who has been awarded eleven gold medals and eleven diplomas at various European exhibitions for the excellence of his work...' (Macmillan 1922, p.223). Sellier remained in business at 32 Frederick Street until circa 1936 (Franklin 1936, p.11 (Trade Directory section)). | |||
