Bardwell had a studio at 21 Collins Street East, Melbourne, Australia, in the 1870s. Bardwell was possibly earlier based at Ballarat (Cato 1955, p.162). A 'J. Bardwell' had a studio at 23 Collins Street, Melbourne in 1877 (Davies and Stanbury 1985, p.128).
