the 22.9.1652 I Thos Harlakenden of Earls Colne in the county of Essex gent being sick of body yet of perfect memory thanks be to almighty god do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say imprimis I give and bequeath unto the poor of the parish of Earls Colne the sum of 40s to be paid to them within three months next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto Alicia my well beloved wife and to my two daughters Dorothy and Alicia all that my rent charge of 22li the year due to me from Allmott Clench of Great Bealings in the county of Suffolk gent together with all my personal estate my debts and legacies paid and funeral charges expended to be divided between my said wife and my two daughters in manner and form following that is to say one half thereof to my said wife and the other half to my said daughters equally to be divided between them and to be paid to them at their several ages of 18yr item my will and meaning is that if either of my said daughters shall depart this life before their said several ages of 18yr her part or portion shall be equally divided between my said wife and my said daughter surviving item my will and meaning further is that if either of my said daughters shall marry without the consent and contrary to the will or liking of my said wife she then living then her part or portion herein bequeathed shall be wholly at the disposing of my said wife item my will and meaning further is that my said wife shall take and receive the yearly rents and profits o f that my copyhold meadow which I lately purchased of Geo Cresner gent lying in Earls Colne aforesaid for and towards the maintenance of my said daughters until they shall attain to their several ages of 18yr as aforesaid item my will and meaning further is that if my said wife shall marry to any person before my said daughters shall accomplish their several ages of 18yr as aforesaid then that then she shall give sufficient security to my loving brother Wm Harlakenden of Earls Colne esq for the payment of such parts and portions as shall then be behind or unpaid according as he shall think fit and in case she shall refuse to give such security as aforesaid that then he shall have power and authority as guardian to my said daughters and at their charge recover the same out of her hands by due course of law and the same to put out or employ according to his discretion to the best advantage and the yearly profits thereof arising to pay to my said wife for and towards the maintenance of my said daughters until their several ages of 18yr as aforesaid and of this my last will and testament I make and ordain my said wife to be executrix revoking all former will or wills by me made and I nominate and appoint my said brother Wm Harlakenden to be supervisor hereof desiring him to see this my will faithfully performed giving him full power and authority to act and do as need shall require according to the true intent and meaning of my will herein mentioned and declared and I do give my said brother Wm Harlakenden for his pains herein my sealed gold ring with the arms of the Harlakendens or another of the price value of 20s at his choice in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year abovesaid Thos Harlakenden (rest from transcript) witnesses Edw Elliston Sam Payne his mark
