J.A.C. Holm was the son of N. Walwin Holm. He was born in 1888 at Acra. He was educated at the C.M.S. (Church Missionary Society) Grammar School and the R.C. (Roman Catholic) School, Lagos. He joined his father's photographic company circa 1906 and ran the business while his father was in England 1910-1917. J.A.C. Holm opened his own studio in Accra in January 1919 (Macmillan 1920, p.210).
