medium: photographs
keywords: raids against British
caption: One of these skulls was reputed to be European - believed to be that of a telegraphist who escaped from Imphal during the attack on the Political Agent and other British there in 1891. Michivam told us these skulls all represented those taken by the village and that there had been at one time many more, but the greater part had been destroyed by a fire. We did not enquire which was the European's skull and Michivam was too tactful to indicate it.
