caption: a Naga warrior in full war dress. On his head is a chaplet of cane studded with boar-tusks, as a protection against sword-cuts, and a crest of the tail feathers of the sacred hornbill. In the ear-lobes are tied streamers of red-dyed goat's hair and cotton. A sash embroidered with white cowrie shells shows that he has been in previous raids. His shield of tiger and bear skin, topped with plumes of crimson-dyed hair, is larger than himself.
