text: Lima tells me that the four heads captured by Christoph at Pangsha had no significance for the Aos and other Nagas on the expedition and that even (63) if they had been offered to them they would all have been refused. An old head possesses virtue only for the village which originally acquires it and the only head which the porters wanted were fresh heads of men killed by the column itself. I must find out how the Konyaks came to use the stale heads which Christoph gave them.
