text: E. Angami. Chizema. Carved stone figures for a great warrior or a great lady-killer - the man is buried just outside his house, then a circle also a parapet of stones is built, filled in with earth, and his prowess in war and love is chronicled.
text: 2 carved figures - head and a tubular figure = the man and his wife, then to their left and behind, a number of roughly hewn heads (a tally of the enemies whose heads he took). Finally rows of stones, (not carved), one for every woman he seduced.
text: 1. 2 fully carved figures (photographed) 37 women, no heads.
text: 2. 2 large heads (man and wife), 59 women, 9 heads.
text: 3. 2 stone figures, 43 women, 9 heads.
text: 4. Nihui Angami and his wife - on his right a stone tiger - in middle a stone stag, on left a stone bear - vague lumps of awkwardly shaped stone - 172 women.
text: 5. Hitsezu - a very great warrior - 85 heads, all very roughly carved, 30 women. All the heads and figures have weathered badly, features barely traceable.
text: Chizema - no tradition of carved wooden grave figures. Murozu Angami used to carve the stone heads and figures - no payment - he was merely fed by the family - while carving he was genna (ie. no sex - no meeting or eating outside the house).
