Konyak. Chingphoi. All boys who have entered a morung and all men get effigies - a pair for each man. (Girls and women do not). 'The figures are put up so that they may wear his dress'. One is a figure of the dead, the other is a servant 'to carry his load'. The skull is taken from the corpse any time within the Naga month in which the man died. It is then put in a cist, close to the corpse itself. The figures are put up by a path in an entirely different place. The skull is fed at Bihu for 3 years 'but whether the soul is there we cannot say'. |
