text: Sangtam marriage.
text: First effort is to get a girl in the village itself - and only if none suitable do you go further afield - an old woman is usually employed as envoy.
text: Prejudice against cross-cousin marriages of the first generation - it is too near. The blood is too close. They will not have children.
text: Divorce - Adultery - the adulterer has to give a pig as fine - if the woman goes and lives with him, he has to pay the husband all the wedding expenses.
text: If the woman's fault, turned out with nothing and can claim return of bride price - eg. if dirty, lazy or pilferer. If not the woman's fault, husband must give her all her own things and some balls of rice according to status - 3 or 4 if rich - 1 or less if poor.
text: Almost the only kind of field work women cannot do is to fell trees or bamboos - 'they would only cut themselves'.
