text: Off the hills, the land tends to be quite flat. The houses are of bamboo ... Every village has groups of areca palms - their grey stems rising slim and smooth above the roofs. The hillsides are sometimes glossy with wild plantains. As we drove mile after mile along the tarred or shingled road, fields of mustard showed piercingly yellow under the tingling sky.
text: December 22. This morning the wireless has announced a visit by Henderson to Delhi to discuss terms of compensation. So we are now much nearer to the end.
