text: Kanying - Sangtam word for tiger. leopard - cf. bagh - ie. a generic word - but special sort distinguished.
text: Kima/ Ki Kanying - the 'water' bagh - tiger.

text: Kongkhu - a smaller kind of cat ie. smaller than a leopard. Kanying Kongre - were-leopard.
text: Leopard killing rare among Sangtams and tiger killing unknown. When a leopard killed it is buried and not exposed on a platform outside the village cf. Sema Christians or Aos.
text: A leopard head or tiger head in no circumstances brought into the village or given to the log-drum. 'The children would touch it and all their limbs would swell'.

text: Since 1943 tigers a great nuisance in the N. Sangtam country. In early 1947, 50 mithan killed - great enthusiasm at Hopongki's success. He sat for 7 hours before getting it.
