text: Among Angamis skill in carving is very widely diffused. For the Sekrengi festival (February), new beer mugs and new spatulae are needed and each household must make its own. Each young warrior must also have a dummy drinking horn and this also he must make himself - carving and whittling down a single block of wood until it assumes the curving suavity of a horn.
text: Kohima. The spatulae made for Sekrengi have carved and decorated handles - they are 'festival' spoons for scooping up the rice- dregs but they can also be used on ordinary occasions.
text: Each boy and girl has one - a girl's spoon is made for her by a boy and is almost a love token - the girls spoons therefore tend to be more elaborate than the boys.
