text: Beaten at Lem Lyom (harvest festival) - frequently in the cold weather to give warning of kites and tigers - big man's death - the drum is sometimes male, sometimes female - tongsen.
text: Erythrina tree (same tree is used by Aos & Changs) - head tree is next to the drum - it has red flowers - the flowers are like the blood - 'We put heads in it - so as to get more' - Angami grave effigies are made from it.
text: Carved wooden buffalo head - basket balls and a wooden head hanging by the drum - some Chang drums are male, some are female, the sex discovered as follows - a few cuts are made (before felling) the tree is then left for the night - a man of the Ung clan observes his dreams - if he observes a woman meeting him, he says make the drum a woman, if a man make it a man - This drums name is Sande - a woman [Sande is the name given to the first female child born after a man has given a mithan feast.] - if a man appears in the dream, he also announces the drum's name.
