When Adams went in Jan. 1941 it was the day the first aeroplane was seen over M'chung. He took with him Aos of the Mokokchung area (Aliba, Chungtia, Ungma, Longkham, Chucan) - sacrificed a large cow - nothing happened - fixed boundaries - within it no tree to be cut - the Aos wanted it reserved as a piece of sacred Ao land - the Sangtams said it was now their land and declined to part with it - they pointed out that the stones were equally sacred for themselves - Adams ordered that it would remain part of the Sangtam village land but no trees within certain limit would be cut. |
