Occasionally our fastnesses are broken into by a visitor from the outside world. This week, Mr. Sachdev, the Sikh manager of a coal mine, which is on the boundary of the district, arrived in Mokokchung for giving evidence. He came to dinner with us one evening and his well tailored suit and precise turban seemed oddly dressy in the midst of Naga nudity. He is from Lahore, where his brother is a doctor, and already the communal hatred between the East and West Punjab is showing itself in gutted houses and murdered women. This is in tragic contrast to the rest of India where July has been a month of almost unbroken peace. |

Sachdev is about to go to Mussoorie, where his wife and children are spending the hot weather. The summer migration to the hills is now a habit with wealthy Indians and Mussoorie is (33) fast becoming a sort of Indian Deauville. |
