text: | The village itself is usually built so that it has a good view of the surrounding country. Around the houses are platforms of great flat stones which are now used as sitting-out places but which originally were look-out posts from which the sentries could scan the approaches. In Chizami today the children wrapped in their blankets sat up on the platforms looking like rows of grey pigeons on a London portico. |
