text: This morning as we went through Longsa village, we could see Mokokchung, a blurred brown mass the far side of the Diku (87) river. Away to the left the village of Ungma huddled on its spur while a shining white blob proclaimed in blatant terms the Baptist chapel. I thought how differently the early English did these things. A church on the Downs, a chapel in the Lake District - there the simple greys blended with the hills and the sky. But here the tin flashes like a heliograph and it is as if the whole landscape itches.
