Longri then spoke about the Delhi delegation. 'What a waste it was,' he said. 'No one would see us. No one would listen. Everyone tried to put us off. I said to Nehru's secretary, 'How can we respect your leaders when they will not even see us? I tried to see the Viceroy. Three times I went. I saw his private secretary. I said, "We have come so far let him give us only one minute." But the secretary said, "The British are going. What can the Viceroy do? How can he help you? It will only murder your case if you see him. He has received all your letters and sent them to Pandit Nehru. Do not make it awkward for him." But I did not listen. I went three times but still the Viceroy did not see us. |
