text: On the outskirts of Lungkhung village, a choir of Christian maidens stood in a line singing hymns to welcome us. The two leaders each bore a brass vase of zinnias and cosmos. As we entered the village the choir solemnly followed behind singing more hymns in four parts and we felt as though we were moving in procession down the nave of a church.
text: The camp is a shed made of bamboo, matting and banana leaves, and we were just in time to stop a herd of cows from eating the bedroom wall. (109)
