text: | At Sangsoma the headman was a vivid figure in scarlet, black and white. He wore great elephant-tusk bracelets, shell and boars' tusk necklaces. He had a black cloth embroidered with small men in cowries. He had a scarlet dao belt with dangling scarlet tassels and scarlet baldricks also embroidered with cowrie men. He was a witty wirey little man and there was a great deal of backchat as soon as he joined the party. |
