The women have peculiar way of doing their hair. They knot their tail of hair into a loop at the back, then bend it up, and tuck the knot in so that the loop projects sideways over the left ear. They have a lozenge-shaped tattoo mark on the forehead like the Chang women but it is smaller and neater. They wear ornaments similar to the Lhota women, smooth shining pewter bangles, but in other ways they look very like the Chang women. The men are not tattooed at all. Their clothes are similar to the Kalyo Kengyus; dark indigo cloths embroidered with cowries or red and black squared cloths. But I have noticed a grey cloth with black and terracotta stripes, chevrons and squares which seems peculiar to the Yimchungr. (148) |
