strength of Naga tribes in Burma |
text: |
There is much talk too of the strength of the tribes on the Burma side of the No Man's Land. The village of Tsawlaw as a result of the war has two hundred rifles and now that news of Burma's independence in January has filtered through, there is a fear that the tribal area will become more turbulent. Until the war Burma pursued a similar policy to Assam; on both sides administration was gradually pushed forward towards the frontier and lawlessness was kept within bounds. But a new Burma Government, busy with its new responsibilities, will have little time for these frontier problems and the interpreters were expressing their fears of head-hunting massacres. (150) |
