To Rusa (Kulan Mutan). Coolies arrived very early from the village and we got off by 8 am. As I had to leave an escort behind to bring on cash and also a guard over the rations dump at Chopsa, I took on 35 rifles only. The village was founded originally from Banfera. It quarrelled with the parent village and squatted on Chopnyu land taking an Ang from Chopnyu. The physique of its members is far better than the Chopnyu village and its stands no nonsense of any kind from Chopnyu. The Ang's brother was in his best kit - three coats, a cap surmounted by scarlet pugri, a large effigy of a head round his neck, and carrying a spear. |

Like its neighbours, the village keeps herds of buffaloes of the hills variety and there were several heads in the Ang's house, most of them with a bullet hole in the frontal bone. The house was about 60 yards long, but there was very little of interest in it and complete absence of good carving. In the Ang's morung there were between 70 and 80 human heads and 30 and 40 heads of tiger and bear kept at the back of the morung. The village has about 130 houses, very much like Longlam and Punkhung; each house has its own bari attached. Ahon and ten sepoys went straight on to Longhong, to warn the village to meet us at the boundary. His friends from the administered villages and Chui had been there a few days before, but had got tired of waiting for him. |

The whole of the village was most friendly. |
