We also saw the house of the Thevo whose name was Varhai, and who had died the previous day. His grave is an oval stone erection about seventy centimetres high piled up with small stones and in the midst of it is implanted the skull of a mithan, actually ordinary cattle. The house is insignificant and has no horns. Then we saw the new Thevo, Morneni, whose house is bigger although also not imposing and stands on the old ground which had been chosen by the founder of the village. This morning the chekru of the village died as well so that the people are now restricted from working in the fields through a flood of gennas. |
