text: Finally we entered the village and my first impression was Melanesia. Mills also expressed this idea. What in particular causes this is difficult to say. The houses are built so that one enters at ground level but the floor of the house rests on a bamboo supporting frame which eventually towards the seating platform at the far end is quite high off the ground.
