text: After barely an hour we see Shiong in front of us. The last stretch goes steeply downhill again. In front of the village entrance stands a rubber tree, the two trunks of which (one has apparently grown out of an area of root) reach across the path like a portal. There used to be a small platform on this tree for the village sentinel. A thin bamboo wall marks the village border. When one comes from Angami country one is struck by the absence of a door.
