Soon we met groups of Naga one after the other who were all going off to a market in the plain with big mats of palm leaves on their backs. There were mostly men but some women went as well. Some groups came from beyond the border and many of the men were stark naked. They seemed to think it funny that I too was walking around half naked. After three o'clock we reached the bungalow, not without first meeting the doctor on his way to Borjan. I found matters in order in general in the bungalow of Wakching, only that many things were covered by a thin film of mildew. Late at night I heard the booming of the drums. The rhythm is almost like a train starting off. |
