activities of different clans |

That is when it transpired that there are several clans in each morung. When a mithan is slaughtered the different clans take up specific functions. A man of the Bhenbha clan splits the mithan's skull with an axe. A Neang-ba man stabs him with a spear and a Yanahu man cuts off the tail. If there is no Yanahu man in the morung the tail cutting does not take place. That matter is not quite clear yet. For example, when the Au-kheang morung is rebuilt two clans come from the The-phong and one from the Ang-ban to help. The Au-kheang are prohibited from carving tigers. (139) While a mithan is being killed during the building of a morung the man who spears it says the following words "Ah, oh, we have killed men from Totok, we have killed men from Yungya, we have killed men from Nanching, let no debt fall upon us". |
