since head hunting stopped, much sickness ; tattoos and heads |

When many heads were captured there was no sickness. Since it is prohibited to hunt heads there are many epidemics". This may actually be true as in the days of head-hunting the villages kept more to themselves and illnesses could not spread so easily. The men of Shiong, Chi and Totok, now have a substitute for capturing a head in order to gain the face tattoo. They go into the woods and spear a tree. But Chi and Totok still get enough real heads. The weather is indescribably bad. It pours every day for hours and the sun hardly ever appears. |
