In front of Ahon's house stands a whole group of closely placed gable posts. Some of them have a mithan head carved on them. They have been put up after the slaughter of mithans and with ceremonies of which the feeding with mithan meat, rice and rice beer is most remarkable. The killing of the mithan is also connected with ceremonies although they are not comparable in extent with those performed by the Angami. (notebook 4 p. 15 following). Ahon has several mithans and buffaloes in Chi and Leng-ha. Shiong and the people living in Shiong, including the Ang, do not keep cattle, only pigs, chicken, and dogs. The men who captured the skulls at the Ang's house are still alive and the skulls are fed at every 'Alea-bu'. |
