Ang of Longkhai offers beautiful spear for sale |

In the morning came the Ang of Longkhai, Mauwang, the only Great Ang in the controlled region, but he does not seem to have quite the same prestige as the Angs of Mon and Chi. In any case he appeared with only two companions. He is a funny man with a good sense of humour and the facial expressions of a comedian. Unfortunately our communication was difficult as he only speaks a little Assamese and there was no one about who could translate. His deaf mute brother is a famous carver but he lives in Mon at the moment. Mauwang himself however is a smith and he offered me a woman's spear for sale which he had made himself. It is a beautiful piece with two tips and a small male figure between them. Only wives of Great Angs carry such spears. The price was accordingly high. |
