text: Wakching alone is supposed to spend Rs. 400 a month on opium. The financial situation of the people of Wakching is a mystery to me anyway. They buy numerous things like tea, salt, matches, kerosene lamps, iron for smithing and sometimes little things from the plains, cloth from the Ao, all kinds of finery from beyond the border and mithans from Chi. Also occasionally cows from the plains. All they export are mats, pan leaves and daos so apparently a rather passive balance of trade.
