I then walked on with Yongang in the direction of the Sinyang Valley. In most fields taro is planted in between the rice. (47) The different types of rice are now easily distinguished by colour. Some are rust-red, others corn-yellow. Often a small field of one kind stands right in the middle of an otherwise uniform field, but never does one find the actual mixture of several kinds, and one wonders how the people can keep apart the grains of six different sorts of rice. |
