The Rhembas are not actually from Kongan but come from Wakching and at least one ultimately from Chui. If a Rhemba dies without descendants then another man is called in again from another village. The equivalent for the Niemba of Wakching are the Ngou-ba. Each morung should have three of these old men but in two morungs there are only two at the moment. They perform gennas for the sick, certain gennas for the fruits of the fields and they build corpse platforms and formerly they used to carry the enemy heads to the skull tree. However they have nothing to do with legal settlements. Each household gives a small basket of rice annually to the Ngou-ba. They are the clan elders and are elected. |
