through tea gardens, meets tea planters |

(74) After tea we drove for a few miles mostly through tea gardens and rice fields to a club where several people, all of them tea planters, were playing tennis. Afterwards the gentlemen sat down together for a long time with beer and whisky and we had a stimulating conversation about all sorts of things, for example, about the missionizing of primitive people. I enjoy to talk again for once with Europeans and some of these tea planters are quite intelligent and all are very nice. It was late when we returned home to Heefke's bungalow to quite a good supper. For the night I shared a room with Castles and I slept very well. |
