text: | Towards one o'clock I left Borjan and rode up to the outpost. Then we walked up to the village of Kongan. On the way to the Chinha morung we past the quarry where the red, very soft, sandstone is cut for carving the skull urns for the dead. Tied up chunga, probably of some age, was leaning against it. Madhu had been offered in it when the last urn had been cut out. A chant is murmured at the time that the stone may not break (compare notebook 7 p. 53). |
