text: Standing in a circle the warriors lift their spears and call out battle cries which end in a rough, gloomily rising call. Then they walk around the circle and a man recites some words in a loud voice which according to Chingai have the following approximate meaning. "The small Ang of Ding-donba is dead. The great Ang of Mon feels great sadness therefore". Again they form a circle and the hardly human cry sounds into the night. It has become dark and this cry makes me slightly scared for the first time in the Naga Hills and I doubt that I would like to meet those otherwise so nice young people when they are just on the war path.
