The front of the morung is bordered with some carved posts which carry the projecting roof. Behind it one steps through the openings, which are between the main posts, into the main room of the morung where the men sit around the fire and where their tools are hung up. At the back wall of this hall stands the Ang's seat with carved hornbill heads on both ends. Only the Ang and his son may sit in it. Somewhat to the side of it stands a similar, slightly higher seat, where the Ang of Mon is enthroned when he comes to visit Wangla. Although these are indeed seats the word is slightly misleading as they both take on the form of a bed. Two small stools, one for the Ang the other for the Mon Ang, in addition hang on two posts. |
