Yesterday most people had the Pung-wem-bu genna. The correct date for it is the third day of the month Shou-banli, but some people do it a day early. It is more of a family affair and is not connected with a prohibition on working the fields. In the evening the head of the household kills a pig or a chicken in the rice granary and with the blood he sprinkles the leaves, which have been tied to the carrier baskets which have been used for carrying the rice, to the posts and to the pot holding the special genna rice, Wem-dzong. Simultaneously he says "May the rice come together here from everywhere". Then he takes the killed animal to the living quarters where the family eats it together. |
