Little is new in the village. In about a month the The-pong morung will be rebuilt which unfortunately I shall miss but the preparations are already on the way. Today the married women of the Balang morung, but only those who come from the The-pong and Oukheang brought twenty four big carrier baskets of rice into the The-pong morung. Those Balang women whose fathers belonged to the Ang-bang do not participate in this offering. In each of the baskets set up in the open hall of the morung there is stuck a tall wide leaf which is also used during the ceremony of the first planting. When I arrived these women were sitting comfortably in the The-pong morung and chatting with the men, apparently the otherwise existing prohibition for a woman on entering a morung (152) was not valid today. |
