text: Phire-Ahire is so peaceful that it would have been completely unnecessary to take an escort with us. This village from which all Sangtam are believed to have come originally (187) nowadays is made up of several khels rather spread out and the houses give quite a poor impression in general. Only some have figures of cocks on their curved roofs, the lowest points of which lie in the middle of the building.
